Can Antibiotics Or Quarterzone Make Wee More?

Question:

Can antibiotics or quarterzone (for an ear infection) make my four year old son wee more? Or what could be the reason?

Answer:

Thank you for referring to us. Generally for ear infection, glucocorticoids are applied directly into the ear in a drop form but they are also available in a tablet form as well. These medications cause the body to retain salt and result in a decrease of urine output. Many antibiotics are available to treat ear infection both orally and as a drop form.

Many times, antibiotics can change the smell or color of the urine. Without knowing the specific medication or any of your son's medical history, I feel I cannot give an adequate response. On the medications related site we try to answer general questions about medications. We cannot diagnose or recommend any type of treatment.

I suggest that you work with your son's pediatrician and express any concerns about the therapy that he is on currently. Only a prescriber who is familiar with your son's history, lab results, and medications can properly recommend a therapy. Best of luck.
